COCONUT CHARCOAL

Coconut shells as an important raw material are widely used for making charcoal in the world. Coconut shell charcoal is an important product obtained from coconut shell. In turn, coconut shell charcoal is used in many fields by reason of its advantages and important features. Coconut shells are good raw materials to produce coconut shell charcoal.

The process of converting shells to charcoal includes removing all the moisture from the raw material in a limited supply of air. It requires a special charcoal drum to carbonize the coconut shells and produce high quality charcoal. The coconut shell charcoal is widely used in food and domestic and indsutrial fuel, also used to produce activated carbon.

Activated Carbon produced from coconut shell has certain specific advantages as the raw material can adsorb certain molecular species. Coconut shell is carbonised by using methods like pit method, drum method, destructive distillation as you can see from the video below. The coconut shell charcoal is the raw material required for the manufacture of activated carbon. The shell charcoal is manufactured by burning shells of fully matured nuts in limited supply of air sufficient only for carbonisation, but not for complete destruction. To obtain good quality charcoal fully dried, clean, mature shells should be used. Now several modern methods are in vogue for the production of charcoal. As you can see from the above picture inside of the coconut shell, when correctly burnt is brittle and shinny.
